However, it is estimated that more than 100 million people own Bitcoin. 

This is because many people store Bitcoin on popular exchanges (Binance, Coinbase, etc.), and these cold storage wallets hold many users’ assets in one place rather than in individual wallets. 

In fact, close to 1.3 billion $BTC addresses have been created in the past ten years.

On April 24, 2024, there were 926,842 confirmed Bitcoin transactions, the highest number ever recorded in a single day. 

Meanwhile, the lowest daily transaction count in this period was 263,982 on January 29, 2024.

China is next behind India, with over 38 million Bitcoin owners, and the United States ranks third with more than 28 million holders.

Top Bitcoin Owners By Address

Bitcoin ownership is highly concentrated among a few large holders, often referred to as “whales.” Other large holders include crypto exchanges and corporations. 

According to wallet balances, Binance occupies the top spot with 248,598 BTC or 1.26% of the total BTC supply. 

Another Binance cold wallet ranks 4th with an additional 102,552 BTC. 

Many of the wallet addresses on our list below belong to exchanges.

However, many other corporations hold Bitcoin. These holdings are likely spread out across wallet addresses, or the addresses remain private, which is why they don’t rank so highly on the list. 

For example, MicroStrategy holds 386,700 Bitcoin, but they are nowhere to be found here.
